AOPA Germany Receives over 1,000 Pilot Volunteers

Last month, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Germany received over 1,000 General Aviation Pilot volunteers who registered to participate in a planned relief operation during this difficult time of COVID19.

In this crisis, to fly time-critical urgent small consignments, such as medical samples for analysis to a free capacity laboratory or medication to a hospital, is particularly suitable for general aviation aircraft, who can access a large number of decentralized airfields very close to the periphery of cities or in the area. This will reduce transport times considerably, especially where ground-based means of transport are often too slow.

The implementation of this service is purely voluntary, without compensation, yet demonstrates a gesture of humanity and solidarity by the general aviation community.

We are now awaiting the green light from the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief and will be on standby with 2 hours notice. Fantastic to be contributing in such a practical way.
